Two things, very quickly because it's Saturday and I'm an idle toad
First is in lieu of actual words, here's a bunch of clips I took at Decaydance: here on youtube. Variable quality and lots of waving hands, but there are some nice moments of Gabe talking about love, Spencer drumming and Brendon making strange faces, Andy drumming and gratuitous Sisky. I didn't get to take as many clips and pics as i'd like, on account of location, other people and also, being distracted by the music.

The show was great, with all the bands just seeming really on and really happy to be there. Could have done with some longer sets and one or two fewer tossers in the audience (dear guy standing next to me: if you're the only one moshing, it's not a mosh pit, it's just you being a tosser and you're not allowed to complain if the next time you try to slam into me, my elbow is there) but most of the audience were pretty good and I got to meet up with a bunch of great people and do the dance of varying layers of identity. "My username is this, but my real name is that, and you can call me..."

Second is in a display of cult loyalty fannish enthusiasm, I'm pimping WorldWideFangs. This is the product of one of those conversations that start "hey, you know what'd be funny?" And in this case lead on to "People throwing fangs for Cobra Starship around the world, especially if it's at a landmark or something."

Admittedly, at the moment "around" is more like one city in Europe and people is more like "two", but membership is open. If you have a picture and no flickr account, let me know and I can upload it for you.

Things I like
In no particular order...

Music videos with trains in:
Bloc Party, I Still Remember.

I don't know why, I just like trains. Also, the music video for Fur Patrol's Precious, because it kind of freaks me out every time I watch it.

Ferret racing

Archive.org, which hosts the prelinger archive. Hundreds of ephemeral movies, ads, health videos, social guidence. My favourites include:

Peversion for Profit (c. 1965), which teaches us how porn can weaken our resistence to the communist threat, and also turn our sons and daughters into lesbians.
Personal hygiene (c.1950), in which a soldier learns how to keep clean with the power of folk-songs and the support of his comrades in arms. This support includes scrubbing him clean in the shower.
Cindy Goes to a Party (c. 1955), which teaches us how passive-aggressive fairy godmothers can be.
Are you Ready For Marriage (c. 1950), in which we learn that being as thick as two short planks doesn't mean you shouldn't get married, just that you should wait a year.</a>

Music you kind of have to dance to and that sounds good in summer, like Send my love to the dancefloor, I'll see you in Hell (Hey Mr DJ) or Clothes off!

The fact that I finally finished uploading all the episodes of QI series 1, series 2, series 3 and series 4 as mp3s.

Fic: This story's going somewhere, bandom, RPS, non-gen, adult
Title: This story's going somewhere
Fandom: Bandom, Fall Out Boy (RPS)
Summary: Ageswap AU, in which Pete is still young enough that people are hopeful he will one day act his age, Joe is under no such illusion, and Patrick and Andy are old enough to know better (but young enough to do it anyway).
Notes: Thanks for [info]ficbyzee for encouragement and, you know, not telling me I was a crazy person and listening to me flail about how it was only meant to be a small, gratuitous fic. Also many thanks to [info]gigantic for beta-reading through the lot and reassurance when I was way past any kind of judgement on the fic and [info]megolas for letting me talk about this in public. 42,00 words! What was I thinking?
Warnings: Adult content, including sex and swearing. Made up stuff about real people. Teenage dramatics. Non-gen. Occasionally gratuitous use of people from other bands. Length.
Comments, criticisms and pointing out of typos appreciated.

Things that are good (especially if you're in the UK)
QI (Quite Interesting) mp3s up for grabs. Works really well as audio, though best listened to while ironing, rather than on the train where people will stare at the crazy person trying not to laugh.

Season one.

Season two.

Season three.

Season four - this one, I'm still uploading the mp3s to, so it's a work in progress. 1-5 are up there already.

It's random information and occasional bits of Stephen Fry getting stroppy about grammar! Incidentally, the out takes for QI S1 are up on youtube, and definitely worth seeing.

Also extremely cool is this, the Old Bailey's criminal records. Searchable by location, name, time, crime, crime type and going back centuries.
Worth noting, by the way, is that sodomy used to be a general term for "unnatural acts", so some of the early indictments for sodomy were... yeah. Very interesting stuff and a fun way to kill an afternoon.

Also interesting is the Historical background stuff, which includes community histories (black communities, gay, gypsy/traveller, Irish, etc.) and tips for finding them in the proceedings, keywords to look for and so on, as well as stuff on gender, London and so on.

Final brief thing, Walkit.com is an excellent thing.

In an attempt to get myself posting again.
So, as you may have heard, I went to see Cabaret at the lyric theatre with [info]burntcopper, [info]megolas and [info]snowballjane. Really good show and a really good example of why, even if you love the film version of something, it's often worth seeing it on stage. [info]burntcopper and [info]megolas have posted on it, but my not-entirely-coherent thoughts are below.

Cut for musical talk. )

Also, there's a lot more nudity than I expected. For those interested, I got the tickets cheap off of Discount London Theatre.

Briefly on Doctor Who, kind of late:

Spoilers for the finale )

On a happy note, I have apparently succeeded in luring [info]petronelle into QI. This is a good thing, although her experience with the pilot has been slightly traumatising. Don't ask about the tie-pins.

Mmm, concerts.
Due to the obsessive nature of certain friends with poor self-control and my ability to take advantage of friends with an obsessive nature and poor self-control, I will now be going to see Fall Out Boy along with Panic! At The Disco, Gym Class Heroes, The Academy Is… & Cobra Starship at the Hammersmith Apollo in August. I'm really happy with the lineup and hopefully the front half sound will be better this time round.

Ooh! I wonder if this means CS will be playing anywhere else. Maybe the Water Rats again?

I'm such a sucker for live music. Um. I may also be going up to Edinburgh to see FOB there a few days later, but in all fairness, we didn't know they'd be playing with people like Cobra Starship and GCH in London when we bought them. Also, I have never been to Scotland.

Certain friends are now attempting to back-seat livejournal post, so I'll stop typing now to thwart them.

Drive-by posting
1) Prague is the most beautiful city I've been to. You know how you go to a city and you have to see a particular historical building, this example of baroque architecture, that old street? Like that, but for pretty much the whole city.

Pics taken are here, taken with my shiny new camera.

2) I'm Jam on Good Reads, which looks like a very shiny site indeed. So many books to add to my list!

3) Saw Guster at the Water Rats with [info]megolas and the drummer is just something else. Like watching Bruce Lee, but on drums. Seriously, you could not see his hands -and judging by the sounds, he had at least eight of them- as anything other than a blur. Pictures to follow when I've gone through and seen if there are any even remotely clear. Nice show, decent audience except for the girl that kept screaming in my ear. You're less than two metres from the band! You don't need to scream loud enough to actually hurt the people around you!

ETA: Fixed the link to Good Reads. Thanks [info]failing_angel!

Fic: Pushy Little Fuck, bandslash, Frank/Gerard
Title: Pushy Little Fuck
Authors: [info]megolas and [info]jamjar
Fandom: Bandslash, MCR
Notes & Warnings: Joint fic with [info]megolas. Frank/Gerard, born from purely intellectual speculation on certain traits of Frank Iero. And then naturally, it all devolved in to porn. Beta-read by the relentless awesome [info]ficbyzee.
Utterly fictional and all in our (rather sordid) imaginations.

Live music: Fall Out Boy, Cobra Starship, Madeleine Peyroux and Bloc Party
My first update in many, many years, and it's a concert report for shows I saw about a month ago. Since [info]megolas and I kind of failed utterly at doing our post-show reports separately, we've done them together.

For the record, tickets to Fall Out Boy and Bloc Party were found via Scarlet Mist, a free face value fan-to-fan ticket-swap service for Music Festivals and Concerts. Anyone in the UK, it's definitely worth checking that website out if you're after something sold-out. Their motto is "We don't have to deal with Ticket Touts, Scalpers, Whores and Mercenaries. We can do this ourselves."

Sadly, the zoom on my camera wasn't working so while I took many pictures, they're all kind of bad. If you're interested, you can see them here. The mosaic looks cool, at least.

The Cobra Starship ones are slightly better since a bunch of them were from The Water Rats show.

Title: What a swell party this is

Notes: Title from here, inspiration from [info]petronelle, who wanted Brucie/Clark. Well, she says it was for others, but... So Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent. Nothing explicit and utterly frivolous, but arguably identity porn.
You meet such a range of people at a Gotham party.

Title: Eyes closed to fingers crossed

Fic: Understanding: Lack Of, To Have An, bandslash, non-gen
Title: Understanding: Lack Of, To Have An
Author: [info]jamjar
Fandom: Bandslash (RPS). Fall Out Boy/Gym Class Heroes
Person ultimately responsible: [info]ficbyzee again. She kept saying things! And then writing things and demanding I entertain her! She also audienced and beta-read and was about equal parts loveliness and evil.
Summary: Travis doesn't get it, even though he is and does.
Notes: Fair warning, this is RPS, Patrick/Travis explicitly and other stuff on the edges, mostly involving Travis, Pete and/or Patrick. Sexual content so avoid if that's not your cup of tea.
Disclaimer: Utterly fictional.
Feedback (including comments, criticisms and point out weird formatting) is all appreciated.

Travis isn't surprised that Patrick and Pete aren't hooking up. )
